Hollywood News: Expendables 3 movie rating has been decided

By on July 3, 2014

For those of you looking forward to an all out 80’s style action galore in Expendables 3, you are going to be disappointed. The MPAA has given Expendables 3 a PG-13 rating. The bad news is it won’t contain foul language, nudity, blood, guts and mutilated body parts. The good news is it has an excellent chance at the global box office to make a lot of money. A lot of money will add up to another installment of The Expendables.  Many movie fans are already making wish list for another installment with other former action stars added to the roster (Jackie Chan? Pierce Brosnan? Steven Seagal? Chow Yun-Fat?)

In recent years, R rated movies have had a difficult time making money at the box office and kids can’t see them. If The Avengers was Rated R, it wouldn’t have been the success it is. While you can argue that The Expendables movies should be made for the adult audience, the paying repeat customers are the young teens that like comic book violence and no-brainers. Add to the fact that most teens wouldn’t even know who these over 60 year old stars also hinders the movie from making money if they can’t even see it. Stallone and crew want to extend their stardom a bit longer so they need the younger audience to know who they are. Both Stallone and Schwarzenegger failed with their other movies outside of The Expendables. Those movies (Bullet To The Head, Sabotage) were Rated R and failed at the box office.
